This hotel's open-air atrium reception area and grounds are built around ponds filled with tropical fish, small sharks, and sea turtles. Historic petroglyphs are on site. Hawaiian music and hula is performed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the lobby, and both casual and fine-dining restaurants offer panoramic ocean views.

Grounds at this six-story Hawaiian resort are filled with greens, cabanas, and hammocks under coconut trees. Historians guide on-site tours of petroglyphs. The historic Kalahuipua'a ponds are home to various tropical fish, sharks, and sea turtles. Guests can watch fish feedings weekly and participate in the annual release of pond-raised sea turtles each July 4th.

Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows is an eco-friendly beach destinations. Since 1989, in collaboration with Sea Life Park, Mauna Lani has raised juvenile honu (turtle) in its saltwater ponds until they are large enough to be released in the wild. The honu are part of the resort’s fish feeding tour designed to raise awareness of the endangered species. In addition, each Fourth of July, Mauna Lani releases healthy juvenile honu into the ocean as part of their annual Turtle Independence Day celebration.

The garden area of the Maui Lani Spa resembles a Hawaiian village with thatched hale for treatments – two large enough for couples, one with a Vichy shower, two natural lava saunas, a meditation pavilion and a fragrance garden. Indoor area includes beauty and treatment rooms, locker rooms, steam showers, saunas and a retail boutique.

Dining options include the open-air Bay Terrace serving bountiful breakfasts while the poolside Ocean Grill is perfect for lunch and sunset cocktails. The signature oceanfront CanoeHouse features contemporary American cuisine. The catering department can also prepare and serve a dinner for two, from a picnic-style meal to a formal seated meal.

The concierge at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows can also arrange bicycle rental, stand up paddle board lessons, fishing, horse riding, scuba diving, surfing, canoe rides, and tours around the Big Island (surcharges).

Two oceanfront golf courses offer panoramic views and over-the-water holes. On-site classes include Pilates, yoga, and a unique combination of a golf clinic and spa treatments (surcharges). The racquet club includes six tennis courts (three lighted for night play). The fitness center provides cardio machines and resistance equipment, a free weight room, a lap pool, and spa tub. Personal trainers (surcharge) are also available. A large, oceanfront swimming pool is located by the Ocean Grill and Bar.

A year-round children's camp (surcharge) includes a varying schedule of activities such as learning Hawaiian crafts and games.

Monthly, on the Saturday before the full moon, hundreds of guests bring their own picnic dinners and enjoy twilight storytelling, dance, and music. Annually, green sea turtles raised in the resort's pond are released into the wild on July 4th.
