Insider Tip
  • By starting the day on the remote southeast coast, hotel guests can beat west-coast tourist traffic to attractions such as Blue Pool; Pi'ilanihale Heiau; Wai'anapanapa State Park; and nearby white-, black-, and red-sand beaches. Hana and surrounding areas can be seen from a mountaintop memorial to Hana Ranch founder Paul Fagan; the front desk has keys.
Hotel Overview
  • Ranch setting
A scenic coastal drive along the Hana Highway leads to this boutique hotel in Hana, a historic Hawaiian ranch town.
  • Cottage accommodations
66 guestrooms include a blend of sea ranch cottages, many with private hot tubs, and bungalow-style cottages that offer the charm of Old Hawaii.
  • Spa and sports
Guests enjoy spa treatments, horseback riding, exploring black, white, or red beaches, ukulele or lei-making lessons, and yoga or aqua aerobics.
What to Expect:
  • Opened in 1947, this 66-acre coastal resort was fully renovated in 2002. Isolated on the eastern side of Maui's Haleakala mountain, it's accessed by a 3-hour drive on a winding, two-lane coast highway, with one-lane bridges over waterfalls. The hotel is set in a working ranch, and horses graze on a bluff overlooking Hana Bay. Celebrating couples, eco-adventurers, and vacationing businesspeople come for Hawaiian history, culture, and entertainment, and the many on-site recreational and spa services.
Amenity Highlights:
  • The hotel lends gear for snorkeling, bicycling, fishing, and other sports. Other complimentary activities include daily yoga and aqua-aerobics; lei making, ukulele, hula, or pandanus weaving classes; and guided garden walks. Oceanfront horseback trail rides and treatments in the 9-room spa are available for a surcharge.

Memo to the guests of Travaasa Hana

Classic Vacations and been advised by Travaasa Hana that they have finalized plans for selected renovations to restore and enhance the guest room experience at the resort. Beginning February 9, 2015 the lanais, furniture and panoramic sliding glass doors of the south section of the resort’s Sea Ranch Cottages will be replaced individually on a rolling basis. This project will continue through late 2015 and include removing the existing private hot tubs from each deck. The northern section of Sea Ranch Cottages are currently closed and will remain closed for renovation until 2016. All of these rooms will also be updated with new lanais, furniture and panoramic sliding glass doors.

Due to the nature of the work on the Sea Ranch Cottages there will be increased activity and intermittent construction noise. Work will be confined between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Other facilities, including the Sea Ranch Cottage infinity pool and hot tub, The Spa at Travaasa Hana, resort programming and restaurant and in-room dining will remain operational as normal.
