Overview
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Synagogue of Saint Mary the White, Calle Reyes Catolicos 4, 45002 Toledo Spain. This Mudéjar construction was built in 1180. It has five naves separated by pillars supporting horseshoe arches. In the 15th century it was converted into a church, although today it is simply a monument which is open to visitors. It has a coffered wooden ceiling, Plateresque altars and an altarpiece by the school of Berruguete.Duration: 40 minutesStop At: Iglesia de San Ildefonso Jesuitas, Plaza Padre Juan de Mariana, 45002 Toledo SpainThe Iglesia de San Ildefonso is a Baroque style church located in the center of the historic city of Toledo, in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It is also known as the Jesuit church and is consecrated to Saint Ildefonso of Toledo, patron of the city and Father of the Church. Its construction took more than 100 years. Work began in 1629 on lands acquired by the Jesuits of Toledo in 1569. The location hosted the houses of Juan Hurtado de Mendoza Rojas y Guzmán, count of Orgaz.[1] It was the birthplace of Saint Ildefonsus. Pedro and Estefanía Manrique, high Castilian nobility's members, were the promoters of the erection of the temple.Duration: 40 minutesStop At: Iglesia de Santo Tome, Plaza Conde 4, 45002 Toledo Spain. The parish church must have been founded after the Christian Reconquista of the city by Alfonso VI in 1085, as the first news that we have of its existence is from 1142. From the first Mudejar building, it has kept the large multifoil arch superimposed upon the main arch that separates the main nave from the presbytery together with the sturdy buttresses of this part of the nave and a small trefoil arch on a brick frieze arranged in Mudejar style that survives in the high part in what used to be the semicircular sanctuary of the original single nave church.Duration: 40 minutesStop At: Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, Calle Reyes Catolicos 17, 45002 Toledo SpainThis monastery was founded by King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile to commemorate both the birth of their son, Prince John, and their victory at the Battle of Toro (1476) over the army of Afonso V of Portugal.Toledo was chosen as the site for building the monastery due to its central geographic location and because it had been the capital of the ancient Visigoth kingdom, symbolically reconstituted by Isabella and Ferdinand with the restoration of the lost unity of Spain, through the union of Castile with Aragon.Duration: 1 hourStop At: Mosque of Christ of the Light, Calle Cristo de La Luz 22, 45003 Toledo SpainThe Mosque of Cristo de la Luz is a former mosque in Toledo, Spain. It is the one of the ten that existed in the city during the Moorish period. The edifice was then known as Mezquita Bab-al-Mardum, deriving its name from the city gate Bab al-Mardum. It is located near the Puerta del Sol, in an area of the city once called Medina where wealthy Muslims used to live.Duration: 40 minutesStop At: Iglesia del Salvador, Plaza Salvador S/N, 45002 Toledo SpainAlthough the church is small, it is an exceptional building, because it was the site of 4 successive constructions, one on other and so on, It's a 12th-century church built on an 11th-century Taifa mosque, which was an expansion of a 9th-century Umayyad mosque and in turn on a Visigothic religious building. Also these civilizations reused 2nd-century Roman elements.Duration: 30 minutes

Traveler Reviews

Toledo was amazing. Our tour guide Aranxa, I think that’s how it was spelt, was very knowledgeable and super friendly. Such a beautiful and amazing city with a ton of history. The tour we took with the tourist wristband got us in to two locations in the city that we visited. We had to pay 15 euro per person to get in the cathedral but it was totally worth it. I think it’s typically 10 euro to get in the cathedral and they give you a guided tour with a headset but paying the 15 euro to have Aranxa being your tour guide was much better. I saw another review on here that said pickup was difficult and unorganized and perhaps they have changed how they operate since then but we did not get that impression at all. We left promptly at 9 as advertised, the group was at the exact location specified and easy to spot, we got an hour and a half at the end of the day to walk around Toledo and eat or shop and was asked to meet back at 3:45 so we could get back to the bus for 4 and arrive back in Mad

Our tour went well when we were on our own. It gave us enough time to explore the historic city. The wristband was a great value, giving us access to many sights. Our friendly guide for the beginning of our visit didn't seem to know much about Toledo and had us climb the long slog up the hill to the old city on a very warm day rather than take the escalator. Still a mystery why this happened. Also, we didn't stop at the city overlook as stated in the itinerary. The trip overall was a great value, but a more experienced guide is needed.
