Arrival Day in Fiji
November 22, 2011
We arrived at 5:10a at Nadi Airport on the Island of Viti Levu. It took us a good hour to clear customs. Once we left customs, we were greeted by Rony from Rosie Holidays. He greeted us with a jovial “BULA” and quickly welcomed us into his “family”. We drank from a refreshing coconut and were briefed on Rosie Holidays location in airport as well as what a client would expect from them. After being greeted, guests are whisked to their next destination by a Rosie Staff Member. Our first stop was the beautiful Sofitel Resort and Spa. It took approximately 30 minutes for us to travel from the airport to Pt Denarau. It was a lovely drive through the city to Sofitel. We arrived at Sofitel around 8:00am and were excited to be in Fiji. Since the hotel was at heavy occupancy, we were given day use rooms to freshen up after our long journey. The Superior Ocean View Room we freshened up in was very nice and modern. It had a nice plasma TV and a really nice shower. The room was basic size but it was very modernized and welcoming. We then had a bite to eat in the hotel café downstairs. The food was great and appreciated after the long flight.
The hotel has a beautiful beach and spa. We were escorted throughout the resort to see the spa and grounds. I was impressed with the well kept grounds and Spa. There were families enjoying themselves at the resort’s facilities as we passed by. The hotel would be a perfect option for families looking to stay a few nights in Denarau before heading off to an outer island hotel.
We then departed Sofitel for Pt Denarau to meet our incoming ferry to Tokoriki Island Resort. Pt. Denarau was nice because they had many shops outlining the ferry area. This was a good place to exchange money as well. They had a Western Union that was easy to work with. There is an outlet of kiosks on way to ferry. You can find South Sea Cruises ferry check in off to the left. There is a ferry schedule on a board on the side of kiosk that explains how long it will take to get to each hotel. We were able to see that it took approximately 1 ½ hours to get to Tokoriki. The ferry ride was fun and it is highly recommended that clients upgrade to Captains Lounge. The Captains Lounge is a section in front of boat where clients can be treated to soft drinks or beer and some snacks. We were fortunate to be in this section. We also walked up to the upper deck and looked at all the other islands we were passing by.
