A Day Together: Romantic Country Gardens & Wine Tasting

November 23, 2012

I am a huge fan of the film “Somewhere in Time.” I love the story, the actors, the scenery, the time period and the music. In one particularly charming scene, Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour steal the chance to spend some time together and wind up touring Mackinaw Island, in the summer of 1912. The music playing in the background as they get to know each other better is beautiful and is titled “A Day Together” and I can hear it in my head right now as I am writing this. This romantic day starts with a drive out of the city and into the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle and toward wide open spaces, with unparalleled beauty and a tropical paradise. Our first stop is an enchanting place where lavender grows in abundance and the theme here is to relax, rejuvenate and renew. You’ll have your choice of either a guided tour of the grounds or simply explore the farm on your own strolling along at your own pace – (my personal preference as you can steal a few romantic kisses among the shade of the trees). After you’ve tasted the lavender lemonade and scones from the store on property, your driver will take from this slice of heaven on earth to the botanical garden practically next door. Here you will encounter colorful and unique plants, incredible rock formations, a covered bridge and waterfalls. You’ll get a map from the gift shop and take a self-guided tour lasting at least 45 minutes or so where you can walk hand in hand and take in all the beauty. After all of that walking you’ll be glad that lunch is close by where the view is breathtaking and the atmosphere is romantic. Cradled in the trees and overlooking the ocean, this will be a lunch you won’t forget any time soon. After lunch you’ll be taken to a beautiful winery where you’ll breathe in the air, taste the wine and sense that you’ve traveled back in time when it was a simpler way of life. You’ll feel the tension release as you sip wines made from hand-picked pineapples and grapes followed by a tour of the peaceful grounds. Make sure to purchase a bottle or two to take home and to remember the time you spent A Day Together.
