Historical Cozumel
January 29, 2013
The next time you're in Cozumel, give yourself a special treat and take the time to see a piece of the island's histroy. These days it's better known for its gorgeous beaches, but in days of yore Cozumel was a commercial and ceremonial center for the Mayan people. Visit El Cedral, and see Mayan wall art that is still partially visible after the passage of so many centuries. Or tour thorugh San Gervasio - home to ceremonial sites with statues of Mayan goddesses, giving you a glimpse of days past, when the locals would pray for bountiful crops and abundant trade. Going a little inland will supply you with this unique experience that few visitors to Cozumel get to see.
