Hugely Historic Hotel
September 30, 2011
Originally built in the 14th century, its original owner was the Doge of Venice. The “new” part of Hotel Danieli was built in the 17th century. It exudes a quiet “library” feel with dark woods and heavy dark fabrics and has an impressive staircase that you notice straight off. The hotel offers a wonderful terrace restaurant on the 4th floor that overlooks the Grand Canal. It is bright and airy and is very popular. The main restaurant has private dining available and the Head Bar man will create a special drink for your occasion!
Rooms and the 3rd and 4th floors offer balconies with table and 2 chairs, perfect for a private lunch or dinner. The rooms themselves are fairly small with marble bath and tub. Junior suites offer more space and while the old building has been recently renovated, the new section will begin soon and more junior suites and suites will be added overall.
The hotel has a rich Venetian feel with tapestry covering a lot of the walls and small leaded Murano glass window. All the artwork is original as is most of the furniture. Very clean, well preserved and elegant. Hotel overall is subdued and has a very European feel. The hotel staff that we met seemed to have a real “love” of this property and it showed. This is a perfect hotel for those looking for supreme service and a true old Venice feel and décor.
