Las Ventanas - a window to paradise

January 3, 2012

There's no sign on the road. There's nothing flashy about the gate. But once inside, I could see why Las Ventanas doesn't need to show off. Sandy stone paths, white stucco villas, and gardens of cactus and other desert plantings frame a breathtaking stretch of blue water. Effortless.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by no less than five staff members with warm smiles and foaming margaritas! They all seemed so excited to meet us, genuinely pleased to show us around the property. In our suite, we were introduced to our butler as well as a unique tequila and chocolate tasting curated by the Maestro Tequilero. As expected, our suite had simple, desert-elegant furnishings, en suite fireplace, and an amazing view of the water. Unexpected luxuries included the balcony with a private plunge pool, an additional rooftop terrace for star gazing, in room whale watching telescope, and turn down service with personalized aromatherapy. I love surprises! In fact, our entire stay was characterized by the staff’s ability to surprise us again and again.

As we were leaving dinner on our first night, the sous chef came running out to meet us. He gave us his card, shared the “secret” recipe for the foaming margaritas, and offered to make me anything I wanted for dinner the next night. I joked that I didn’t see my favorite fish tacos on the menu. He responded, “just ask”. The next night at dinner, I didn’t even need to ask. Our host informed us that we wouldn’t be seeing the restaurant menu that evening. The sous chef had already planned a five-course Mexican tasting dinner for us starting with fresh fish tacos, of course! By the end of the meal, I was completely convinced that the staff at Las Ventanas had mistaken me for someone famous. It was that special.

There’s so much more. . .whale-watching under a beach palapa, the attentive poolside service, the rose-petal bubble bath from the “department of romance”, the butler that searched for my missing earrings! . . .but the true highlight of Las Ventanas is the people. Everyone on staff was genuine, friendly, accommodating, and unassuming in a way I’ve never experienced at any other luxury resort. As I said, I left Las Ventanas feeling famous, and I know that somehow all the other guests did too.
