Next time you're in Paris, skip the Louvre and instead take a tour of the Musee d'Orsay. To begin with, go early, as this museum still has a great many visitors (though less than the Louvre). As you are guided through the exhibits, you'll begin on the first floor with the likes of Manet and Cezanne. That would be enough to highlight any museum, but it's only the starting point for your visit! You'll ascend to the top floor to be confronted with masterworks of the Impressionist era, from van Gogh to Monet to Renoir to Gaugin and beyond. You will marvel at the complexity and depth of these and other masters' works, as you wonder how they were able to conjure such magisterial representations of the world around them. Built in an old Parisian rail station, the Musee d'Orsay is a spectacular tribute to the art of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and shouldn't be missed.
