I always love a trip to the Dominican Republic because of the great beaches, really good food and just a touch of culture. Most of the hotels are big, beachfront, all-inclusives which can be a lot of fun, but if you are looking for something a little different, more intimate, then the Sivory Punta Cana is your hotel. Secluded boutique, amazing private beach, and a staff that manages to be highly attentive without getting stuffy. High luxury at a great value. Plus, the air fare and flight times are surprisingly good from the west coast.
Upon arrival we were personally greeted, taken to our intimate, beachfront room – spacious, excellent view of the water - and then our attendant started talking about the food at the resort. Beachfront is always my first priority, but food comes in a close second. Sivory offers several dining and restaurant options. Thankfully, it was about lunch time when we arrived so we had our first meal at La Veranda - delicious! Local flavors with a fusion twist. After eating, we ended up taking the cooking class at the hotel. Watching a chef prepare a local specialty somehow added an air of authenticity to our entire trip. A perfect souvenir (just make sure your stay falls on a Monday).
As for activities at the resort, they are all beachfront. Your stay includes one hour of daily water sports, and we definitely took advantage of this option. We had planned to venture into town to see the old cathedrals and played at one of the golf courses in the area, but the weather was so nice we never felt like leaving the beach. And, as you would expect at a full service resort, we spent a lot of time lounging in the pool, usually with drinks. Overall, very relaxing. Highly recommend for the private beach, great food and wonderful service.
