Relaxation Abounds in this Fantastic Boutique!
August 30, 2011
My wife and I were in desperate need of a vacation and we decided to start on Isla Mujeres. This was the best beginning to our journey we could have asked for!
We were dropped off at Villa Rolandi’s dock in the Hotel Zone by our transfer and waited for Villa Rolandi’s private yacht, Cocoon. This 42 foot yacht pulls up and my wife and I just start to laugh. That’s exactly how we wanted to begin our vacation, in style! We cruise across the ocean, marveling at the color of the water and enjoying the mist off the ocean. It was a fun trip, if not a bit longer than I expected. Having never been, the half an hour ride was a bit much…but, worth it.
We were greeted on the dock by a representative of the hotel and taken to the lobby. While there, we were handed a free drink of choice. My margarita was cold, strong, and tasty! The rep of the hotel was friendly and processed our paperwork quickly, but not to the point of abrupt. We were allowed our time and then taken to our room.
We were supposed to stay in a Junior Suite; they upgraded us to the Junior Suite Deluxe, with the Jacuzzi on the terrace and larger room, in general. The room was rustically simple - bedding area, lower-level sitting area, terrace, great view... The best part of the general decor was the brick wall and ceiling. We were on the second floor, but it gave the impression that it was a stand-alone unit, with its high ceiling and design. Let us not forget the bathroom, though; the bathroom was not simple. The bathroom was epic! It’s all about the Russian steam-shower. I took five showers in two days. The steam, in combination with the hot shower, was so relaxing! My wife and I kept alternating between the shower, the Jacuzzi, and the three different pools. I say three, although, one of them was just a giant hot tub! It had been my intention to treat my wife to a massage and use the spa facility; to the hotel’s credit and loss, the resort as a whole was so peaceful and relaxing, I did not need a spa treatment by the end of our two day stay.
I would be remiss in my review if I did not discuss the food at the property, as my wife and I love to eat. The main restaurant is Casa Rolandi, a Mexican restaurant with an Italian flair, or vice-versa, depending on your preference. All of their meals are served here. Breakfast was phenomenal; with whatever you order, you get this order of French Toast. The bread is sliced super thin, like sandwich bread, but covered in cinnamon and sugar. It is so soft and delicious, the coating melts on your tongue. Lunch and dinner were equally fantastic. I had one of the best seafood risottos of my life on property. It was rich, creamy, flavorful, and packed with shrimp, calamari, scallops…I actually could not finish it when I’d ordered it. Desserts were equally as impressive. We had a tres leches cake that was moist, not too overloaded with alcohol, great serving size…it tasted like it was freshly made.
Even though my wife and I were continuing our vacation on the mainland, my wife and I were sad to leave Villa Rolandi. The service was top notch, the atmosphere was serene, and the food was fantastic. It’s island time in Mexico… and you’ll never want to leave.
