Review: Makena Beach & Golf Resort (Maui)
October 20, 2011
Just a little past Wailea is the Makena Beach & Golf Resort tucked away in a secluded area of Maui. True to its name, the Makena has an impressive championship golf course. What impressed me most was the property's beautiful, beautiful grounds and gardens that span for acres. While walking the grounds, you'll spot adorable little bridges, waterfalls, koi fish, birds, and stunning foliage. It's like a having a park within the hotel!
Tip: Head out to the benches at the back of the property during sunset - it is the BEST spot to watch the sun go down. You will be mesmerized.
After undergoing renovations in 2009, the rooms in Makena are decorated in a contemporary, casual island style with warm, soothing colors. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, though the bathrooms could use a bit more updating. The gym was also recently renovated and has state of the art equipment.
In-room internet can be spotty. Currently, Makena outsources their internet service, but has plans to bring that in-house, so I'm sure it will be faster and improved down the road!
If you're looking for a quiet, tranquil resort with great value, Makena is the perfect place!
