Take a guided tour of the Museo dei Fori Imperioli in Rome and step into the vibrant past of a Roman marketplace. The museum is built around 5 separate ancient markets, including those of emperors Trajan and Augustus, and includes a combination of original and restored structures that give a superb sense of what it would have been like to walk the forums 2,000 years ago. Your guide will conduct you through these spaces, pointing our historical markers and points of interest such as the temple of Mars in Augustus' forum and Trajan's column. You'll learn about the historical development of these markets, and of the previous buildings that were demolished to pave the way for their construction. By the time you leave, you'll have gained both an understanding of the how a Roman marketplace functioned, as well as of the historical significance of these markets.
