Wonderful Place for Couples or Families with Young Children
September 30, 2011
A brief ride on a ferry (15-20) from Piazza San Marcos brings you to an oasis across from Venice. The San Clemente Palace is a former monastery that exudes a quiet and elegant beauty. Located on 16 acres of green grass, trees and peaceful surroundings, this is a wonderful place for the couple or family with young children to relax. There are 200 rooms (please note, no balconies), 2 tennis courts, 3 hole golf course and an outdoor pool. There is also a health and beauty spa and a chic boutique.
The hallways are very wide and the ceilings are high. Original architecture maintained with lots of marble creates a naturally quiet atmosphere. The rooms are decorated in simple elegance with Murano chandeliers with cream and soft greens. All rooms face out with either a courtyard or exterior view. They offer connecting rooms for families and all rooms are nice sized. The windows are framed in wood and wrought iron and overall the hotel is not heavily decorated.
There is a fine dining restaurant as well as a casual one by the pool. I checked the menu prices and they seemed to be about 25% less than comparable restaurants in Venice. The breakfast room is large and bright and breakfast was a huge affair with hot and cold dishes as well as a “health food” table. Service was prompt and attentive.
This hotel has a chapel on sight that may be used for weddings but does not offer regular services or a wedding coordinator. The hotel is wheelchair accessible, including the water taxi (which runs 24 hours a day and is complimentary).
This hotel is an excellent 4.5 star property and would be perfect for a couple looking for quiet or a family with young children – lots of room to run around! It is also a nice alternative for anyone spending more than the usual 2 or 3 nights in Venice and would maybe enjoy dividing their trip for relaxation time.
