A lovely place to go away from the beaches. There is a small steam railway - but do not expect anything grand, and it does not go very far but it is different. The main building is mainly a shop and restaurant both of which we visited, and it is an easy stroll round the grounds. The owner was there and explained about the history of the place, and tempted us with some rum - which was delicious. The lunch was good - although the service was slow but a lot of people arrived at the same time and nothing is done in a hurry in th heat. I would recommend this as a visit for anyone visiting the island.

We have visited the Abbey three times now over a period of about 7 years and each time something new has been added. The proprietors have gradually and beautifully restored the Abbey, its grounds, make probably some of the best quality rum on the island and now, with the steam train, the whole experience is even more memorable. A great place to visit.

It was like a step back in time to see this Plantation. So interesting to see trees that are over 400 years old and to learn about the history of how this was built and the train built. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and purchased a bottle of rum which they engraved commemorating that on the bottle. So nice!!

The train ride was the highlight, it was well hosted and informative. However, once we arrived at the house there was no further attempt to guide or inform. The guide book was helpful but it ended there. No information about the slave heritage, no information about the rum production process either. A rum tasting it was not, it was a taste of rum, with no attempt to explain anything of the taste or character of the dribble of rum reluctantly offered. At $60 per person I would have expected more! My wife and I have enjoyed many of the tourist attractions in Barbados, without doubt this was the least enjoyable and poorly hosted. Without the train ride experience I would have scored it even lower!

Place is orgsnised, well sign posted and extremly clean. Staff is proffessional, polite and very helpful. Was very disappointed there were no mention of the history of the slaves eg. of where they lived etc., Personally l believe the flags at the entrance was flying in the wrong order. 1st it should be the flag of Barbardos, follow by their owner next choice. Please give the country you are enjoying and grown to love respect.
