Traveler Reviews

Great hike, it was not easy, but you are climbing a volcano. Bring good shoes. Guide was super friendly and David knows everything (and everybody) on the island. Went out of his way to help us find some items we needed in town after the tour.

The guides from Poinciana are very loud and rather obnoxious. It's hard to enjoy the natural beauty of the area when the guide is constantly yelling.

This was a challenge but worth it. It was very intimate as it was just us, me and my boyfriend, and our guide Adrian. Originally it was suppose to be two couples so four guests total but the other couple never showed.

I highly recommend doing the volcano hike this way instead of with a larger group. You do not have to wait for everyone and don't have strangers either slowing you down, blocking your view or talking during the amazing sounds of the jungle.

Adrian was a pro! He came prepared with walking sticks, extra water and a local snack. He guided us and made sure we stayed on pace to get the full hike completed and be back to port in time for the ship. We are in good shape and found the hike challenging but not overwhelming.

Monkeys were jumping in the trees, birds chirped and the air is so clean to breath. Adrian knows the mountain like the back of his hand so there was no worries about getting lost, or timing. The hike took us about 5 hours p

We were only in a group of 3 w Poinciana, our guide was Syl who was excellent. There were 2-3 other groups all w Poinciana as the guides knew each other. There was a large group of 22 Germans from a cruise ship who went at a decent pace but with only 3 we moved fast. We covered the ~5.5 mi RT / 2200 Ft vertical gain from 930-200p Syl gave us good interpretation along w his reggae music, he had sweet rolls and passion fruit juice at the top. It was a bit foggy but it hardly mattered it was a great accomplishment. Syl accurately described the hike with the 3 hills. It was REALLY strenuous with all tree roots and rocks, you need sturdy shoes. I am a 61 yr old and fairly fit and I was sore afterwards. You really need to watch your footing especially on the way down. My 30 yr old reasonably fit daughter did fine The hike made Inspiration Point in Zion and other western hikes seem easy since mostly flat but steep trails... the hike gives you a GREAT perspective on the region, Syl
