We were part of a small perfect sized group (11) who got to be present when a Green turtle was building its nest, lates it’s eggs, and recovered them
We got to see a large green turtle dig a hole, lay her eggs and then cover them back up. Our guide, Ivan, was very respectful of the turtle and very knowledgeable about the whole process.
The tour guide worked diligently managing the safety and experience of the guests and the turtles. We saw two Pacific Greens heading back to the water after laying their eggs and we were all very happy. The guide encouraged us to stay for another half an hour and our patience was rewarded. A Pacific Green came out of the water and laid her eggs right in front of us!
Native’s Way Tours was terrific to work with. Morgan and other staff helped us set up a series of tours including a sunset catamaran, night time turtle nesting, and snorkeling. I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. Our tour guide for the turtle nesting tour, Ivan, was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. He was respectful of the turtles and careful not to disturb them, which we greatly appreciated. He was friendly and kind and made the entire experience delightful. Ivan found us a turtle. We watched the entire process, from her beginning to excavate her nest, to digging the deeper hole in which she buries her eggs, to laying ~75 eggs, to covering them in the end. We were able to lay on our bellies and watch, with our faces only about two feet from her tail. It was an incredible and profound experience. It was one of the things I most wanted to see while in Costa Rica and it far exceeded my expectations. Native’s Way Tours was instrumental in
Ivan and Alexander were amazing guides, equally knowledgeable and hospitable. Even having studied Biology and sea turtles in college, I learned so much more in one evening here. The guide’s attitudes were beautiful: positive and grateful for the opportunities to see nature’s wonders. Our five year old loved it too, and peppered the guides with her questions - each of which they answered as fully and lovingly as those of the adults. This has by far been the highlight of our first trip here to Costa Rica: not just for my wife and me but for our kids as well.
