Because of constant volcanic activity, you'll find white sands and black sands on the island of Hawaii. Located on the southeastern Ka'u coast, Punaluu Black Sand Beach is one of the most famous black sand beaches in Hawaii.Located between the towns of Pahala and Naalehu in Ka'u, Punaluu Black Sand Beach's jet black shores are an unforgettable sight. Coconut palms fringe the upper edge of sand and you may also discover large Honu, (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles), basking on the beach.Duration: 45 minutesStop At: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Island of Hawaii, HawaiiHawai‘i Volcanoes National Park protects some of the most unique geological, biological, and cultural landscapes in the world. The park encompasses the summits of the world's most active volcano, Kilauea. The only comprehensive Park Tour available. Tour the Park and the entire Chain of Craters Road from Summit to Sea.Duration: 4 hoursStop At: Hilo, Hilo, Island of Hawaii, HawaiiDrive through Historic town of Hilo.Duration: 30 minutesStop At: Rainbow Falls, Waianuenue Avenue, Hilo, Island of Hawaii, HI 96720On sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist of the 80-foot falls, making for some pretty magical views. The broad waterfall — nearly 100 feet in diameter — plunges over a natural lava cave and into the river below. When it rains, (which it often does in Hilo), the engorged Wailuku River makes the falls wider, muddier and louder. On these days, you won’t see the rainbows for which this spot is named, but the sheer volume of water and the accessibility of this spot for all ages make it a fun, quick and easy excursion.Duration: 45 minutesStop At: Saddle Road, Hawaii Highway 200, Kailua-Kona, Island of Hawaii, HISaddle Road, Hawaii, is considered among the most spectacular roads in the world. This is 55-mile drive of a chance of a lifetime experience. Hawaii’s Route 200 goes through all four of her climates – tropical forests, arid desert, lush grasslands and misty mountaintop fog. Between miles 19 and 23, you’ll see a few places with lava flows and young vegetation and trees. Near the road you can see where lava thickened and left the telltale mounds of a slowing flow. Just after mile 23, you’ll come close to a popular local landmark, Pu`u Huluhulu, which is an older Mauna Kea cinder cone, or kipuka, and it’s surrounded by younger lava flows. At this point, you’re near the peak height for Saddle Road, about 1.25 miles in elevation – 6,632 feet. From here, you’ll continue through the volcanic aftermath of hundreds of thousands of years of lava activity as you head toward Belt Road, where you’ll eventually descend into Kona or Waikoloa.Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Traveler Reviews

Zane, our tour guide, is the owner-operator of this tour company, which is very cool. Before the trip, he made sure that we were clear about the pickup location. That is very helpful because the Hilton Waikoloa Village's bus pickup is tucked away on a different level. Zane was very friendly and made sure he knew everyone's name. He is also very knowledgeable, not only about the volcano national park, but also in local culture, history, and attractions. Because he is an owner-operator, he can adjust our itinerary based on our interest, weather, road condition and minimize any wait time. I'm glad that I picked this tour company and it was well worth the money and time we spent.

We have explored to the volcano on our own before but this time decided going a guided tour with Zane as geologist to gain more insights of Big island history in general and Hawaii Volcanos in particular. We got to see and experience things that we have never before. Beside getting more education at stops at coffee plantation , Black sand beach with 5 Turtles, Falls, Lava Cliffs, we got to watch insightful videos on recent and on going eruptions that affect Big island lives. His transportation and service gives the group nothing but fun, comfort and flexibility by putting majority interests first if weather permits, comparing to other scripted tour. The group can’t thank Zane to give extra efforts in preparing snacks/drinks for a long drive and mostly accommodating the sit-down lunch preferences for all ages. This is the only tour company that goes to a restaurant and orders a hot meal. Last but not least taking us to tropical fruits in Hilo Farmer market . Seeing some tour guide l

Eric was terrific, it was great to hear his explanations about the volcanos, the geography and the formation of the islands. Comfortable accommodation in van and good route covered a good portion of island. We also appreciated his overall knowledge of the island and its history. Excellent!

It was an awesome tour. Erik, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable. He made the magnificent sights (lava flow at Volcano National Park, black sand beach, waterfall etc.) even more magestic with the history he was able to provide. Definitely a must do tour.

Erik is very knowledgeable and also a very genial host. He gives guests options along the way to match their interests and provides a comfortable ride. While a 12 hour tour might sound long, the day flew by.
