Our guide was Yulia- very knowledgeable and explained so much for us. She speaks excellent English and was very helpful - great job!
The monastery is beautiful-a peaceful holy place with so much history. It’s worth making the journey to visit.
But, we travelled to Sergei Posad by bus from Moscow- poor choice !!! The traffic jams on the highway were very long, and we lost time from our tour. We asked our guide to return by train to Moscow at the end of our trip- much better option. Avoid buses if possible- so many roadworks slows the journey!

The day before the tour the agent contacted us to ask if we wanted to pay an extra $20 (did not say if this was per person or total) to have a private car take us there and back rather than the train. I opted to go for the original train.
Based on the description of a "pick-up" at our hotel then to the train, I assumed we would be picked-up by a car for that leg. Instead we were met at the hotel by our guide who walked us quickly through 45 minutes, 3 subway stations and about 1.5 km of hoofing to get to the train station. We are over 60, my wife was really steamed at me for booking the tour.
The guide was OK, we have had better and worse, Sergiev Posad was a nice introduction to satellite defense city of the past.

Sergiev Posad is a great place. Our tour guide was not. She gave us a brief intro before entering, and that was all. No explanations, or pointing out buildings, not even names or history. She and the driver just walked ahead this was a private tour and in several occasions could not answer our questions about places or things and said she will Google it. They were speeding around the place, not waiting for us and not giving any explanation. We learnt a lot of info from listening to other tour's guides. On our way there, from departure till we got to the parking place she did not say a word, unless we ask about landmarks we saw. On our way back, our guide slept the whole trip. According to their own saying, they were clubbing till 3 am. The driver had to fight sleep and fatigue in order to keep driving. But she was the only one to be nice and civilized to us. We paid a lot for this tour in order to receive a good service. We did not. Expensive tour. Cheap service.
