Overview
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Alte Donau, Vienna 1220 AustriaThe Old Danube:We'll be investigating arguably the most quaint part of Vienna, the Alte Donau; a lakeside village which was cut off from the main Danube channel in 1870. This is where nocturnal beavers now roam in an old side arm of the grand river. We'll see how Vienna maintains its long-established reputation as a centre for diplomacy, politics and international relations as we paddle past the United Nations, along with several of the city's other most important contemporary architecture set among Vienna's emerging skyline. This is later contrasted with cute lakeside huts which adorn the water's edge to give vibrant bursts of colour to the lakeshore. We'll most likely be sharing the water with local rowers, the odd fisherman, and plenty of swans and ducks along the way! If it's hot, we can also take a break for a swim in the clean lake waters. You'll get loads of tips from us for your stay in the city while making new international friends, getting some sunshine, and being active in the great outdoors!Once the tour ends, if you wanted to keep investigating 'new' Vienna for a bit longer, you could grab lunch or a cocktail at Vienna's nearby 'Copa Beach', swim and hang out on the Danube Island, visit Austria's tallest building - the Danube Tower, or explore the charming Danube Park, all of which are within walking distance from where we'll finish.Duration: 3 hours

Traveler Reviews

The tour was great to discover Vienna‘s Alte Donau. The Kayaks are very comfortable and easy to control also for beginners. The tour guide James organised the tour very well and he is a very pleasant person, who can give you interesting facts about the Vienna of today and great recommendations for the rest of your stay. Thanks a lot James! We had a really great time with you!

We had a great experience with James yesterday. He was kind, knowledgeable and funny, which made the entire trip super enjoyable! James knows Vienna very well and he gave us a lot of recommendations for restaurants and other experiences as well as many historical and current political perspectives on Vienna and Austria. When we return to Vienna, we will definitely go for either this or one of James’ other tours again! We really recommend going on this trip!

Second time we have used James. The service is professional and friendly. He is prompt attentive and very knowledgeable of the area we toured. James his passion for aquatic life and customer service blazed through our time together. James bilingual skills are outstanding that he made all of us feel very comfortable and informed. I highly recommend this tour for all ages and abilities.

James met us promptly and walked us to the water’s edge and got us situated in comfortable, inflatable kayaks, which are also very forgiving. A beautiful day on the Alte Donau seeing a unique view of the new part of Vienna, an actual island where many Viennese enjoy their summers, and all while getting in a workout that didn’t at all feel like a workout. James’s story is fascinating, and his tour is a lot of fun for all people at any level of kayak experience. If you get a chance, take this tour. You’ll love it, and get to experience some things you wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Next time we’re in Vienna, we’re doing it again!

Great tour of the old Danube. This was my first time riding inflatable kayaks and it was incredibly easy, with very little effort required to get around. We saw a lot of the recreational side of the city that only residents are privy to, and got some fantastic background on the section of the Danube and the city itself, including the skyline. James is a great hand and a very experienced guide on Vienna itself. Would totally recommend for all ages, shapes, and sizes!
