Traveler Reviews

The Whitney Plantation is a fine place to tour. It take 1-2 hours to visit. However, I spent more time on the shuttle than visiting the plantation because the shuttle dropped people off at other tours. We also had an unexpected stop at Oak Alley for an hour lunch break but couldn’t walk around the grounds. If I had known that it would take most of the day for a 1-2 tour, I would have planned differently.

An SUV came to pick us up for the Whitney Plantation Tour. We were surprised -- we were expecting a tour bus. Thankfully, we were first otherwise, we would have had to sit in the cramped back space of the SUV. The driver arrived on time. We picked up the other couple shortly afterwards. The driver did not offer any information regarding the Plantation, or slavery in the South. She was very nice, but did not talk about the usual things you would expect. We learned that the other couple was going to the Swamp Tour after The Plantation Tour (we were just doing the Plantation Tour). After spending 90 minutes at the Plantation, and thoroughly engrossed in its history, we learned that we had to accompany the other couple to Oak Alley where they were going to have lunch for 75 minutes before their Swamp Tour. We were not allowed to tour the grounds of Oak Alley. We were able to eat their too, but with all the great restaurants in New Orleans, who wants to eat at a museum? After the

This tour was of the Oak Alley Plantation because due to Hurricane Ida, the Whitney Plantation tour was cancelled. I was very disappointed but open to the Plantation tour. I was a little disappointed in Oak Alley because I had been looking forward to hearing about the slave experience and other then getting to look at the slave quarters, it wasn't really touched upon. However, the tour was worth every cent due to the amazing tour guide Brian who kept the bus entirely entertained with all sorts of stories about his tour experiences! It's obvious that he loves his job and I would do this tour again in a second. I hope to see Brian again next time I visit New Orleans. Thanks, Brian!!!!!!

I was suppose to go on the Whitney Tour but it was cancelled due to damage from Hurricane Ida. I chose to tour Oak Valley which was a little underwhelming since I was looking forward to experiencing the slave perspective which was just a small aspect of Oak Alley. However the whole experience was worth it due to our tour guide Brian who was not only knowledgeable but incredibly entertaining. I learned a lot more from him then I did on the tour. Plus he was a hoot and a true southern gentleman! Thanks, Brian for the great tour!

Not only was the plantation an incredibly memorable experience, but our tour guide Brian was phenomenal. He was extremely hospitable and told some great jokes along the way. He was extremely accommodating to everyone’s situations on the bus! Besides that, the tour itself will remain with me for a lifetime. I highly recommend this experience through Crescent City Tours.
