Traveler Reviews

Great experience, what a gem of Auckland, in great location for pleasurable walk in the grounds afterwards

My littles ones enjoyed it. Bummer as the volcano part was not opened, as we went when after the second lockdown.

My personal interest is Maori and Pacific art and really this is as exciting as it gets.Masterpieces on display and alot of them.Well worth the visit.Free or donation for New Zealanders and only $25 for tourists.Dont miss it.

It's a great place to see history related to natural habitats, volcano phenomena, Auckland history and war events. Will witness maori culture including past. kids has lot to learn and explore. Need more than a day to learn and explore thoroughly.

This is a HUGE place. When we went there, in February, 2020, the restaurant was under renovations, and we had to eat in a temporary area, but the food (snacks) was still good. We found the permanent and temporary exhibitions (one on Captain Cook's Polynesian interpreter, another on volcanoes) to be most impressive. The upstairs area is delightfully old-fashioned, with the stained-glass ceilings an echo of old-time museums. We paid extra for the Antarctica Virtual Reality (VR) Experience. There was some confusion as to where it was located; after taking the elevator/lift, we had no idea where to go, and no one was on hand to tell us. However, when we finally found the group, the experience was quite wonderful. We certainly felt like we were in Antarctica, in the helicopter, on the ice, etc.
