Traveler Reviews

Guide was amazing and food was fantastic especially the chili pepper chicken. Local knowledge was also great for a little extra flavor

We had an interesting afternoon with Max. Although we have been to Hanalei many times we thought we might discover something new, and we did. We had to reschedule due to bad weather but we watched the weather forecast and the day we went was fine. Since this includes walking outdoors it is a good idea to keep weather in mind. We had the best poke ever and fish tacos to die for. The most interesting thing for us was learning about fresh fish versus frozen. Max explained how the freezing process affects the fish, and you can really taste the difference when fish is fresh. Enjoy Hanalei, which is a really special place, and your tour with Max. By the way, just wait for him at the tables by the Taro food truck, we were a little unsure of exactly where to wait. Have fun!

We have always enjoyed food tours because we learn about the food and the culture of an area. This tour did the same thing. Max shares good food and fun info with you. We learned about the small, local restaurants run by locals. The kind of places we want to see instead of the bigger shops. We like to take a tour like this early in our visit to get the feel of the area.

Max was our awesome guide tour who showed us some of his Hanalei local favorites. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on our tour, so we got to hang out with Max for the afternoon. During our tour, he shared some of the town’s history, culture, interesting folklore, and food. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, some of the restaurants Max wanted to share with us had closed. However, he did point out several different stores and shops that we checked out after the tour. The food that we enjoyed during the tour included poke, the original chili pepper chicken, fresh fruit smoothies, dried local fruit, assortment of handmade chocolates, and chocolate haupia pie. The portions were the actual size of the dishes from each restaurant - they weren’t reduced for the food tour. We came hungry and left super full. Everything we ate was delicious and we especially appreciated Max taking us to a hole in the wall that we would probably not have otherwise tried - we had both the chicken and ha

The food tour with Max in Hanalei was probably one of the best decisions I made for my solo trip to Kauai! Not only the food was super delicious with so many local elements but also Max being an experienced, friendly and passionate guide made it information and laughter packed 2 hours. This is the perfect experience no matter what stage you’re in for your trip, you’re in for a treat (pun intended!)
