Overview
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, Main Road St. KittsThe tour will pass through the village of Middle Island, the oldest Anglican Church and Brimstone Hill Fortress. At the village of St Paul the tour will drive through Belmont Estate to the parking area which is about 1200 feet above sea level. A thorough overview of the flora and fauna would be shared with the guests. The rainforest provides a canopy against the rain. It is fairly easy to start with no more than your average trek but the last quarter takes half time as you go up and over and hopscotch over roots and rocks.Stop At: Berkeley Memorial, Basseterre St. KittsThe island’s colorful architecture is characteristically Caribbean. The central roundabout is the Berkeley Memorial, which is originally built in the style of Piccadilly Circus in London. The green and yellow structure has clock on four sides with a built in fountain and stands in the middle of restaurants, commercial banks and the National Museum. You will view the St George Anglican Church built by the Jesuits in 1670 and The War Memorial, a Cenotaph built to honor those who fought in the world wars. Be sure to capture the Island’s lush vegetation, verdant mountains and turquoise Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.Stop At: St. Kitts Captain Sunshine Tours, Verchilds Village Old Road Town, Basseterre 00265 St. KittsSugar City, St Kitts’ volcano crater is 1,000 feet deep and almost one mile wide. On top the volcano crater rim you will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch while rejuvenating amidst the dwarfed cloud forest from where there are spectacular views over our “quilted” coastline below, with nearby offshore islands on one side and the other is the giant volcano crater 1000 feet to its floor.

Traveler Reviews

To start with I have to say that Captain Sunshine Tours delivered on their promises and Damien was the best guide you could ever want, helpful, knowledgeable, skilled and entertaining. The hike is not a hike - it is a mountain and rock climb, a real killer for anyone not in top physical condition. My husband and I are in our mid sixties and walk a lot at home so we managed to finish it but were sore for days after. What were we thinking?!! In addition, there is a real possibility of injury and no aid in sight. The view is of a jungle filled crater through a small gap in the trees so unless you want to physically challenge yourself and are confident of your abilities - don't consider this. The view is not worth the effort. Any satisfaction comes from arriving safe and sound back at the starting point.

There were 9 in the group of varying abilities from athletic twentysomethings to me portly and in my mid fifities. It was soon clear that I would be delaying the group so I let them go on ahead and I only got half way up the volcano when it was time to come down. Had I had enough time I would have been able to reach the summit and so I was disappointed that the group was quite large with varying abilities. I would suggest you only go for this if you are in your 20s and fit.

This is a serious hike, due to the elevation. I avg 5-6 miles a week at home & this still had my heart pumping. Passed 3 people on the way up. Not for beginners, you must be in decent shape for this & bring lotsa water. That being said, it's very doable, I hiked w/a mother & daughter & Canadian couple who all made it. Mr.Damion our guide was patient & very competent helping us ascend & descend the volcano & answer any questions we had. However he "forgot" our snacks, so be sure to check w/your guide about that, b4 you start this hike.

This was one of the most difficult hiking tours I’ve ever had to do. The description should have called it a black diamond hike. And it says we get a picnic lunch, well we only got a ½ a glass of juice and a small muffin! This hike is not for the un experienced hiker!!!

The ride around the island was very exciting and beautiful. Seeing the school children gathering for the day and adults working around the island was interesting. The roads are very uneven so expect a bumpy but exhilarating ride! We saw chickens, cows, goats, a few dogs and a cat. We loved seeing chickens and goats everywhere! The volcano hike- wow! If you like to hike or just take in the beauty of nature this is great. It was a very strenuous hike. I mean climbing tree roots and loose rocks. You must take a hands free water (we used camelbacks) or a light small backpack. Bring a snack like granola bar or fruit. Do expect to get dirty. Don't expect to have it easy. There are spiders and mud but they are harmless spiders. We saw a monkey too!! Listening to the birds was awesome. Our guide told us what all the birds sounds were. The views at the top are amazing and makes it all worth it. Your guide will stop anytime you need. You may spend about 20minutes just sitting at the top and taki
