Overview
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productPass By: Rurtalsperre Schwammenauel, Betriebsleiterhaus, 52396 Heimbach, North Rhine-Westphalia GermanyThe Rurtalsperre Schwammenauel with a capacity of 205 million cbm is one of the largest dams in Germany. The dam is 480 meters long, sailing and surfing, boating or swimming, water sports are possible here in almost any form.Stop At: Wilder Kermeter Natur-Erlebnispark, L15, 53937 Schleiden, North Rhine-Westphalia GermanyThe Kermeter is a hill on the Rursee and is located in the middle of the Eifel National Park. This mountain range is covered with an oak and beech forest and will amaze you with its wild beauty. You walk through this area with the guide, so you can expect ascents and descents up to a height of approx. 520m. There are always wonderful views of the Rur Valley and the Rursee, a paradise for hikers and water sports enthusiasts. During the hikes, the guide stops at special places where he will tell you a local story. These can be legends about a name, information about the national park or stories that have been told in the region for a long time.Look forward to a varied hike.Duration: 4 hoursPass By: Staubecken Heimbach, 52396 Heimbach, GermanyThe Heimbach reservoir is located directly behind the dam and is beautifully embedded in this valley. You can walk around this basin and the northern bank with its narrow paths and wooden walkways is often in the sun. Below the Meuchelberg, which is also the subject of this hike, there is also one or the other opportunity to stop off.Stop At: Jugendstil-Wasserkraftwerk Heimbach, Kraftwerk 1, 52396 Heimbach, North Rhine-Westphalia GermanyThe Heimbach power plant is located in Heimbach in the North Eifel and was commissioned in 1905. The hydropower plant draws its water from the Urfttalsperre via the Kermeter tunnel, which merges into two pressure pipes 110 m above the power plant. The power station is still in operation today. The original equipment with eight Francis turbines, each of which drove its own generator of 1,500 kilowatts, had been in operation for almost 70 years. The turbines were decommissioned in 1975 and replaced by two new, more efficient machines. Since then, the system has had an installed capacity of 16,000 kilowatts to cover peak loads. Some of the old machines have remained in place, as the new power generators take up significantly less space.Duration: 5 minutes
