We visited Flamingo Gardens 20 years ago and things sure have changed. The place is old, run down and needs a huge facelift. The gardens were overgrown, leaves everywhere. It was very upsetting to see the black bear and the Florida panther all alone in their separate enclosures. There were peacocks roaming freely that was nice. The flamingos seem to be a lot less in number than 20 years ago. The one highlight was the tram tour guide " John" he was so very informative and got out of the tram multiple times to show us the different trees and explain different parts of the property. The aviary was okay but it should be cleaned on occasion there was bird droppings everywhere.
I really enjoyed all thee wildlife and was impressed to fine that the gardens also rescued animals. Had a great time.
We came here a little after 1pm on a Sunday. We made reservations online the day before and took advantage of the AAA discount. The parking was easy but they were renovating a building near the entrance. You enter first through the gift shop where you can also purchase entry tickets as well as food for the birds. Eash small bag of food was a dollar. We learned the park started as an orange grove with the Wray family about 1930 and comprises 60 acres. We entered the gardens through the back of the gift shop. There are a lot of hard surface trails to walk throughout the gardens with many tropical and subtropical plants and animals, mostly birds. We toured the original Wray home which is a museum on the property and staged as it would have been in the 1930s. We also took a tram ride through additional more remote areas of the sanctuary. The tour was enjoyable and informative and overall it was a good experience. We appreciated the fact we could walk around at our own pace and feel th
My wife and I visited during our anniversary vacation. We loved this place! I’ve seen other “rescue” sanctuaries before but none with this level of presentation and obvious care for the animals. We enjoyed the variety of inhabitants including many types of birds, alligators, otters, iguanas, and even a black bear, python, and panther! Wow! The 30 minute show-and-tell was really good introducing us to a few of the parks “residents” along with an explanation of what brought each to live there (some expected short-term and at least one probably a long-term stay). Thanks to all who support and manage this wonderful facility!
My husband and I LOVED this experience! It was so neat to see the peacocks and iguanas freely roaming around the park, and the staff was EXTREMELY friendly and kind. My favorite part was seeing the otters swim and go down the slide:) If we lived in Florida, we would definitely purchase a membership! It’s non for profit and it’s a rehab facility for the animals there.
