Hagia Sofia is a great choice for eco tourism. It is a 300-acre paradise created by Armando Canavati Nader (and his wife Lorena and named after their daughter Sofia) whose lifetime passion for botany has driven him to cultivate orchards of 1000’s of trees and plants indigenous to Mexico and Southeast Asia. We try to go at least once a year as the place is forever evolving as the plants grow and mature.
Hagia Sofia was an interesting tour with good information about all the plant life and friendly tour guide. The authentic plentiful Mexican food was tasty. The swim in the waterfall and river was so refreshing after a hot walk. The drive from Huatulco was about 1 hour and the tour was 1000 pesos,(60-70 CAD) so definately a commitment. Would reccommend the tour for able bodied adults who are super keen on Mexican agriculture.
What a wonderful experience… We had no idea what to expect when we arrived. Our day started with an introduction to the woman cooking our breakfast and then we samplesd some seasonal fruit and were provided warm coffee while we waited for our breakfast. After breakfast was served the owner joined us and we embarked on our tour of the Mexican jungle. It ended up being just the two of us, so we lucked out on a private tour for a day, which was spectacular with a wide variety of colourful butterflies, flora and fauna, birds singing, lots of hummingbirds, and a highlight of a swim in the waterfall! A thoughtfully planned out oasis for relaxation or adventure. The owner provided details on everything we saw, and didn't - it was an education of nature, culture, and many things - thank you! We will be back to experience the cabanas currently being built, and maybe even try the zip lines !
