Overview
Your morning begins with an 8.30 am pickup from your Chiang Mai hotel and a short transfer to Siriwattana Market. Meet your private guide, Mr Chanrat “Air” Karatna, and your small group of no more than six people, then set off walking tour of the market. Soak up the buzzing atmosphere of the local market as you weave through the crowds and browse the colorful stalls, heaped high with fresh produce. Listen as your guide, points out exotic fruits and vegetables, introduces you to fragrant herbs and spices, and explains some of the key ingredients in Thai cuisine. After market visit follow your guide to the nearby cooking school, where you’ll be assigned an individual cooking station in the open-air kitchen. After watching a demonstration from your instructor, set to work creating an array of traditional Thai dishes. There are plenty of dishes to choose from, but popular choices include Tom Yum Goong (Hot and Sour Prawn Soup), Gaeng Khiew Waan Gai (Green Curry with Chicken) and Phad Thai (Thai Style Fried Rice Noodles). After working up an appetite, sit down to enjoy your homemade lunch, then take away the recipes so you can recreate your favorite dishes back home.Stop At: • Siri-wattana Market (Tha-nin Market), 169 Ratchapakhinai Rd, Tambon Chang Phueak, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand • Air's Thai Culinary Kitchen, 9, 2 Nong Pratheep Rd, Tambon Nong Pa Khrang, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50000, ThailandSample Menu • Course A: Mon-Wed-Fri - • Gang Khiew Waan Gai - Green Curry with Chicken• Tom Yum Goong - Hot and Sour Prawn Soup• Phad Thai - Thai Style Fried Rice Noodle • Course B: Tue-Thu-Sat - • Tom Kha Gai• Po Taek - Spicy Seafood Soup• Phad Ga-praw Gai - Stir fried Minced Chicken with Chilies and Holy Basil

Traveler Reviews

We booked the day before via TripAdvisor and my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the class. Air came and picked us up from where we were staying, and brought us to the local market. We come from California, the land of farmer's markets and a lot of Asian ingredients, so while it was interesting to learn about the prepared foods that Thais make, the market visit mostly covered ingredients we already use in our weekly cooking. I asked a lot of questions and Air answered them all. The cooking part of the class was in a beautiful outdoor kitchen not so far from the market. All of the ingredients were prepared in advance, and so the format of the class was to watch a demonstration of a dish, recreate with the prepared ingredients, and then to taste and eat it. The dishes were formatted in such a way that they could easily be recreated, not requiring a ton of experience or exotic ingredients / preparations. We did green curry, tom yom soup, and pad Thai. Part of me was hoping for so

This was probably the highlight of our 4 day Chiang Mai trip. Air is very knowledgeable and really makes the experience unique given the small class sizes. He gives everyone his undivided attention.
