Batam is a special area of Indonesia, but give you something else than just Singapore. Totally different country: economy, education and all facilities of turism aren’t yet at the top level, but people are nice and our guide Irvin was very helpful.
The tour was absolutely worth of doing.

We checked in with Solid Travel by phone the day before and were told pickup at our hotel would be at 7 a.m. and we would travel on the 9 a.m. ferry to Batam. At 7:30 a.m., no pickup so called their "hot line"--no answer. Continue trying to contact them until 8 a.m. when we took a taxi to the ferry terminal (S$16) and found the ferry company and got our tickets. Met up with the tour guide and he told us that a rep would meet our return ferry and pay for our taxi ride back to the hotel to make up for no pickup. When we arrived back, no rep met us so we had to pay S$14 to get back to the hotel. Tour guide Mr. Bin did a good job of showing us around and explaining life in Indonesia. However there wasn't much to see in Batam and we had to endure visits to three businesses where they tried to sell us products which would get a commission for the tour guide.
