This small and unassuming town played a vital role in the Soviet advance and was the starting point for the 1st Belorussian Front assault on Seelow and the future advance on Berlin. The Soviet’s amassed a force of 768,000 Infantry (including 78,556 soldiers of the Polish 1st Army), 3,059 tanks, 16,934 artillery and mortars as well as 3,279 combat aircraft. Passing through the town of Lietzen, the tour will briefly stop at the German field cemetery. It is of meaningful importance as this site has been significantly extended since Unification, as newly found remains are constantly added to the wartime graves. The town also hosts what is said to be Germany’s oldest barn and a manor house built by the Knights Templar dating back to 1252. Duration: 30 minutesStop At: Schlosskirche Jahnsfelde, Jahnsfelde, 15374 Müncheberg, GermanyThe final stop at the town of Jahnsfelde underpins the brutality and desperation of the fighting. Showcasing a sports field, the once site of a German field hospital mercilessly attacked by Soviet aircraft targeting the red cross markings and the last stand of the 3rd Battalion of the Artillery Regiment 18. Caught at the crossroads by advancing Soviet armor during the withdrawal, the Battalion hastily set up defensive positions destroying an estimated 100 tanks at the cost of 8 officers, 163 killed, over two-thirds of the battalion wounded, and all guns lost. Duration: 20 minutesPass By: Alexanderplatz, 10178 Berlin GermanyOnce back in Berlin your guide will drop you back at your hotel or a central point of your choosing.

Traveler Reviews

Matt has a deep knowledge of the Battle of Seelow but also of WWII as a whole, which make the conversation very interesting and valuable for the visitor. Matt will also take every opportunity to show you a glance of WWII history within Berlin or along the road when passing by a site of interest, which is a nice plus. Definitely worth the time and money.

Mat is very knowledgeable and tells you everything interesting about the battle. I’d do the tour anytime again (even with heavy rain). Perfect!

Really friendly guide! Knows what he's talking about and gives wholesome answers to your questions! The tour was not rushed, unlike other tours we've done. The guide gave us multipletimes the opportunity for a sanitairy stop and time to take a break! The tour is given in a small group, this makes it more enjoyable! i would rate the guide and the tour 10/10!

Matt imparts information in an easy to digest yet thorough style, engaging his audience and bringing everyone into the narrative. His knowledge of the battlefield is extensive and he takes you to places which would be almost impossible to find on your own. The battle is vital to the outcome of WW2 yet almost unknown to those following a purely western front narrative. In terms of practicalities, transport is comfortable, lunch is in a brilliant restaurant and plenty of toilet stops provided. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough.

Fantastic day out with the enthusiastic and very knowledgeable Matt, whose passion for the subject is infectious and brought the whole battlefield to life. Strongly recommend this trip and will be booking other trips with Matt in future. Overall excellent.
