Dão tour Dão wine region was a total mistery to us. Maria is very passionate about this region, as it was there that she began her wine passion. The tour was incredible...we began with a traditional small producer, very boutique that made the most amazing wines...a family owned project that is well worth the visit. After a wine tasting we headed to lunch at Maria's favourite restaurant in the region, where she ate several times. The meal was COLOSSAL...great local food, and great wines. Be adventurous and you will never see food the sane way. After the meal, we headed for the second producer, modern take on the Dão and I was blown away by the massive building. A tasting of wines was included. The Dao region is stunning, endless fields of vines. A joy... highly recommend this tour.

August was my first visit to Portugal. During our time in Porto we knew we wanted a day trip to the Douro Valley, but knew nothing of the Dao. Having visited Bordeaux twice, the subtitle of this tour caught my eye. My friend and I have visited wine regions in many parts of the world. Don't expect to see chateaus like France, but do expect good wine at a very reasonable price. Maria is a gem. She knows the wine industry well and on the drive to our first stop filled us in on the primary grape varieties we would encounter and answered so many more questions about Portuguese wine in general. We enjoyed our tastings at two diverse vineyards as well as a stellar lunch. Whenever I return to Portugal I know do more tours with Maria. Please note that she limits her tours to a maximum of four people. We bought this as small group and were pleasantly surprised to learn it was just us.
