Traveler Reviews

This was an amazing trip. Our driver couldn’t have been more helpful. Even spotted iguanas, red parrots and monkeys while driving there and back! Once at the boat launch, the captain and guides were eagle eyes in spotting wildlife instantly and pinpointing where they were at for our untrained eyes to focus in on. Once monkeys in the trees were spotted, the guides called to them and the monkeys continued to call back! Truly amazing. Once back from the boat ride we were treated to a freshly homemade Costa Rican lunch. Everything was so far above expectations. All seemed family and community driven.

What a wonderful group of locals. If you are looking for an off the beaten path, authentic experience then this is the place for you. The food, cooked by grandma and served family style, is absolutely excellent. They are so knowledgeable about local flora and fauna.

We were taken by our tour guide to Palo Verde Boat tours to enjoy appetizers and then go on a boat down the Tempisque River. This was truly an outstanding authentic Costa Rican experience. We had the opportunity to make our own corn tortilla and cook over a wood fire. We were then served Costa Rican coffee made the traditional way by pouring boiling water through the ground coffee beans. After this wonderful experience with such friendly staff, we were then taken to the river boats. Antonio was our boat captain and he was outstanding. He knew the river like the back of his hand and had eyes like an eagle for spotting the wildlife. He got us close to crocodiles, tiger herons, howler monkeys, blue herons, egrets, bats and ospreys for good photos and pointed out the unique plants along the river andctheir uses. We learned so much during a wonderful afternoon.

Fabulous day trip with the Palo verde boat tour! We reccomend booking directly with the company through their website as they were very accommodating , especially after we booked the wrong date by accidentally. We were a family of five including a 6 month old baby, all had a fabulous time spotting animals. When we found the white faced monkeys, the driver kept the boat nearby for a while so we could watch them climb, jump and drink water from the river. We also saw herons, egrets, crocodiles, iguanas, and bats, with the driver making sure everyone on the boat got a good view. They even let the kids drive the boats!

Saw a lot of crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, and birds. Guides were very patient and helpful in explaining and pointing things out. Even let the kids drive the boat! Lunch back at their office was one of our top meals on the trip
