Traveler Reviews

The museum is self created by Thor Heyerdahl. It’s not state funded in any way because it’s a manifestation of one mans need to think he contributed to Anthropology. This should not be a museum. Sad excuse! Please remove this sad museum…at least don’t contribute!

Great explanations, films and exhibit! Loved our there ! The staff was nice and the covid rules simple to follow ! Would 100% recommend especially to a a person unfamiliar with the story

So much to see and learn about here. The children enjoyed it and we grown-ups learned a lot more about Thor Heyerdahl and about some of the places he researched.

We took a boat trip from oslo harbour and got off across the bay where there are several museums to visit. We really enjoyed our visit to the KonTiki museum with tales of the high seas and human endeavour - good exhibition with the actual boats used for the expeditions, plenty of info about the teams on the boats, the local wildlife etc

The Kon Tiki museum is easy to get to as the 31 bus stops outside and you can get on it lots of place in the town. It also goes to all the attractions in the peninsula. We entered free on our Oslo card and must have spent nearly 2 hours looking at the 2 boats Kon Tiki and Ra 2. Both boats are amazing and the whole exhibition was very interesting about the journey, what they too, how and why they constructed the boats.
