I had a great day yesterday with guide Robert from Iguana Mama riding ATVs in the hills near Puerto Plata. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about the ATV but once I got going it was great fun and wanted more time. Robert was an excellent guide, equipment was top-notch, even had a backup mechanic with us to solve any technical problems on the way. Dominican lunch on the beach mid trip was excellent. Highly recommend it.

We took the tour which left from the cruise ship area. It was a rather tame experience on the quads. No crazy backwoods or mud bogs just a ride along the coast line on the dirt roads created when the wind mills were installed. It was perfect for us non experienced tourist. My 16 yo had a blast as did my wife and other children ages 11 and 9 who were riders on the back with myself and my wife. The guide Carlos who chaperoned us from the pro cab area and on the tour itself was fantastic. He was well versed in the history of DR and his English was excellent. He was super friendly and made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. The tour had two stops one at a little place atop a hill where locals hand rolled cigars, they also made coffee and a chocolate as well as fresh honey and hand carved some souvenirs. We chose this excursion after seeing the great reviews and we were not dissappointed! With Robert as a guide we were introduced to our quads and instructed on how to drive them. Another employee followed us to make sure we were all safe. We then set out on an adventure into the back country and what an adventure. Besides spectacular sight seeing, we enjoyed a break where we enjoyed watching cigar making and sampled the local hot chocolate. We then went to a beach where we were treated to a great Dominican Lunch. Because it happened to be a holiday in the DR the beach was filled with locals playing music, dancing and enjoying the beach. They were all so friendly and it really added to our experience. Robert and his helper set up beach chairs for us and we enjoyed the warm clear waters of the Carribean. My husband and I came to puerto plata for the first time in DR this week. We booked the ATV excursion through Iguana Mama and it was an amazing experience. Alex was our personal tour guide through the beautiful country of puerto plata where he grew up. We had such a personal experience because it was just my husband and I, Alex aa our guid and another gentle men (who I am so sorry but forgot his name) and his son where riding behind us ensuring safety at all times. It was great quality time with my husband and so private since we were the only people in the tour. I speak fluent Spanish but my husband does not so Alex spoke good English to us the whole time. He was so kind and funny and a pleasure to spend the day with. After about 1.5 hours of riding through the country and seeing cigars being rolled as well as smoking some cigars ?? we had an amazing Dominican lunch in the beach. We were then able to relax in the ocean while Alex was so kind to watch over our personal belongings. This
