Traveler Reviews

My husband and I did this with our 4.5 mont old baby in the front pack & it was such a wonderful place to visit & really interesting, the boat ride was excellent also. Really friendly helpful staff. Thanks you so much for staying open when the international borders are closed for local tourism, we really appreciate it :)

Waimangu Valley is one of our favourite volcanic attractions in the Rotorua area and we have visited several times. We always walk down the valley to the lake, and walk back up to the entrance, though they do run a bus service if you don't want to walk both ways. There is also a cruise on Lake Rotomahana you can do, which we did not do this visit, though we have done it in the past. We like this valley for the variety of thermal activity, and the fact we get a decent walk. There was some great artwork to be seen along the way this visit - from an outdoor art trail competition they ran 2020/2021. Worth a visit, and revisit.

An absolute must do! We did the walk & 45 minute boat cruise. My kids loved it, we could wander along at our own pace and take our time. Shows how amazing mother nature really is. The scenery was so pretty in the mist and the staff were so friendly and appeared to be happy in their work.

Just back from Waimangu- what an awesome half day out for my whanau of 5! We expected a bit of nice scenery and a bit of thermal action but it was that x1,000! The walk was easy enough and super beautiful and the geology, bird life, thermal activity and history were all amazing! Then there was the boat ride with the informative and friendly local guide, we were chuffed to be in the place where the pink and white terraces had once been. Highly recommend!

Definitely worth the visit
Morning is best when the weather is cold
A lot more visible steam rising
Easy walk down and the benefit of getting the bus back up
