Traveler Reviews

Last evening we went on our Uluru Sacred Sites and Sunset tour. We started at the Uluru and Kata Tjita Cultural Centre. No photography allowed inside but it was all quite interesting. We saw a presentation about bush tucker, looked at lots of art produced by local women, and were given a presentation on what all those paintings mean and the traditions upon which they draw. Then we went around the base of Uluru which is ridiculously imposing up close. Amazing to think that people were allowed to climb the rock until it was stopped two years ago. On the way to explore some more we had the opportunity to touch the rock, Then we explored some caves. There was native art on the walls and evidence of many fires on the roof. Then there was a big waterhole where even after two years the water was still contaminated by climbing tourists who had used the rock as a toilet. Charming!

We were very disappointed with this small group tour. We were added into the middle of another tour and felt rushed for the 2hrs 15min. Each area we visited was a rush to ensure the other group had their sunset BBQ. I understand it is Covid and numbers are small but we felt like an addition. The snacks- 1 hot apple and lolly snakes that have been in the bus all day. The two guides had a little disagreement when setting up the BBQ. It was rushed.

Really lovely staff but I have to say after booking a small group max 17 ppl of of ‘Uluru Sacred Sites’ tour, we were disappointed to be picked up in a full size coach with nearly 30 ppl on board. Unfortunately we had been ‘tacked on’ to a day trip from Alice Springs without being advised of this. We were looking for a local and authentic tour, hopeful of an indigenous guide, and I did not feel the tour company delivered in this or were very good communicating. This is not the staff’s fault. I get it’s Covid, but please be upfront with your clients about any changes to the tour. It spoilt it for us, and as a result I would not recommend them.

We were so lucky as we had a private tour for this experience. Our guide was warm and personable, and gave us extra stops to lookouts and a bit more time than usual as we were such a small group. Best thing about emu run is really the fact they never cancel their tours. So many other companies canceling had people stranded in Yulara with nothing to do!! Thanks Emu Run Crew at Yulara for making magic happen for us ??
