Traveler Reviews
This was a highlight of my trip to Portugal. The scenery is beautiful and the bridge both a bit scary and thrilling to walk across. A great feat of engineering. It was certainly a pleasure to walk on such a well constructed wooden walkway along the river. Have to admit I was glad to reach the end of the 8.5 kilometer trek. But we celebrated our achievement at a wonderful little restaurant that our fantastic guide, Alfonso, took us to. Alfonso is charming, knowledgeable and quite a linguist. He also came prepared for tourists who were not quite prepared. Since it rained on and off the whole day, I was glad he brought along an extra waterproof windbreaker. It was a pleasure to meet him. (Be sure to ask to see photos of his canine family!)
Thanks for a great day out in the countryside. I loved visiting Lisbon and Porto, but it was nice to get out of town and see some of the beautiful landscape that Portugal offers.

I highly recommend this excursion to anyone visiting the Porto area. Though the bridge was fun, the best part of the tour was getting to experience the Arouca region through the eyes of a local. Diogo and Claudia were extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, cuisine and natural environment of Arouca. The food was definitely a highlight as well; we sampled a variety of sweets in the morning, and were treated to a full-course meal after the hike. The entire day was well-organized, but never felt rushed or overly-structured. Thank you Diogo and Detours for a memorable experience!
