Traveler Reviews

Charleston has a very carefully curated history from the 1600s to now. Frankly Charleston Tours peels back the veneer of the town and tells you THE STORY of Charleston. Franklin is a certified (and passionate) guide who takes you much deeper than the touristy aspects of the town. Franklin ensures you can properly identify, understand, and appreciate the messages from the past. This tour allows you to fully embrace the whole of Charleston. Your Charleston experience is not complete if you pass on this opportunity.

Franklin is a wealth of knowledge and passion about the story of Black people in Charleston. A wonderful intimate group and meaningful learning and discussion during the walk Absolutely recommended.

This was both educational and thought provoking! Franklin did not read from a script nor did he try to preach or get into politics. He simply provided us with insights and observations about African American contributions to the city (and our country) that you likely will not hear most tour guides talk about or find in most history books. What was really interesting was that our tour group of twelve consisted of people from multiple racial backgrounds, ages and heritage. Some were friends of ours and others were people we met for the first time. By the end of the tour, it felt like we all bonded a little closer as human beings because of the time we spent getting educated and seeking the truth together. For me, this was not just a tour. It was an experience!! I highly recommend it!!!!!

This tour was great, my only drawback was that it was a walking tour, due to COVID-19, so we didn’t get to see much of tour in it’s original state. The tour guide, Franklin, was great, and extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

I booked this tour (and 4 other walking tours of Charleston) during my family’s 5 day vacation here. This tour was BY FAR the most educational AND interesting! Frank kept us all engaged with his passion to teach us local history others shy away from. Just because history isn’t pretty doesn’t mean we shouldn’t know it! Thank you Frank!!
