Traveler Reviews

Sehr beeindruckende geothermische Rundwanderung, man spaziert auf markierten Wegen zwischen zischenden und brodelnden Gewässern. Am Schluss gibt es ein Fussbad in lauwarmen Wasser,

Do the walk with a guide because you will get so much more out of the experience. 3 hours will allow for the walk and soaking in the hot springs. Remember to take a bag for the wet suit! The employees were good and conscientious. The sulfur smell is subtle and hardly noticeable! I found it better than Iceland’s geo thermal areas!

Worth visiting if you have a couple of hours to kill, but for a superior geothermal experience, definitely go to Wai-O-Tapu instead. The spa was heaving with people and didn’t look inviting but the staff are very welcoming and helpful.

We booked the mud bath and the walking tour. The geothermal site looks like a hell hole, the formation is not impressive. For the Geothermal Site visit, it is better to go to Wai-O-Tapu or Te Puia. The mud bath tub is just a partitioned outdoor tub. It is not mud bath. It is muddy water bath. There is a small box of mud on the side for the customers to put on their body. The tub is only 30" deep, you cannot even lie down to relax. Then, we were escorted to the sulphur pool. You sit at the pool while you can hear the road traffic behind the screen. It is just not relaxing and there is nothing to look out. Don't waste the money.

The whole walk is not too strenuous but very informative. The hot springs and geysers were mind blowing. You must be come accustomed to the strong sulphur smells but it will not put you of visiting this once in a lifetime visit. At the end of the walk you can put your feet in one of the cooler mud baths and do Maori carving of a lasting memory to take home. A must to visit if you are in the area.
