It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage of people around the world.Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45 minutes small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. The funicular offers a view of the monastery as well as the breathtaking views from the Pyrenees. At the top, you can also visit Aula de Natura (Nature Centre), where you will learn about the history, flora and fauna of the mountain. Duration: 45 minutes

This was a great tour! Such beautiful history told the best by our tour guide Marta! Thank you for being a great tour guide! The scenery was breathtaking, and not just because it was frigid out that day! ?? Such a peaceful place. The mountains, church, and the food/wine was 5 stars!!

Francesc was a great tour guide. His knowledge of the area and of course, cats, was extensive and entertaining.

And so it was seven cats in a van led by Francesc, a very cool cat in his own right. We met on a Sunday morning outside of Carrer de Trafalgar 6 because the van can park there. Stefano, the big cat of the tour company, showed up to give Francesc a burgundy umbrella. The drive up was no more than an hour and a vote was taken to see if we would take the air-tram all the way up to the mountain. We did. I was apprehensive but Francesc made it easy on me by narrating the ride up and telling me what to expect. As a guide, Francesc is extremely well informed; he took a six-week course in and about Montserrat and was given access to most of the place during his studies. As a person, he is thoughtful and very easy going. We never felt rushed. Montserrat is impressive in terms of its topography and the views are breathtaking. While there you can go on a hike, visit the museum (I believe it only opens on weekends) which has an excellent collection, visit the church and La Moreneta (the Black Virg

Montserrat is a must do if you are visiting Barcelona. Out tour guide, Marc, was so knowledgeable about the abbey and Spanish history in general. It is a beautiful drive up to Montserrat and the abbey is beautiful.
