Destination Guide: Mexico

Note

Cancun and the sun-drenched Riviera Maya lie at the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula in sunny, southeast Mexico.

Cancun’s stunning coral sand beaches, luxury vacation spots and crystal-blue seas, combined with the natural wonders and impressive Mayan ruins of the Riviera Maya, make this an ideal vacation spot for those in search of sunshine, water sports, history, and fun.

Note

Los Cabos, on the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, is considered one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations. The region comprises two very different towns, Cabo San Lucas and the laid-back San José del Cabo. Both offer splendid white-sand beaches and clear, turquoise seas stretching as far as the eye can see plus an abundance of wildlife, from striped marlin and mahi-mahi to inquisitive dolphins and manta rays. Distinguishing the destination of Los Cabos is its iconic arch at Land’s End, El Arco, found on the most romantic and most photographed beach, Lover’s Beach.

Note

In Cozumel, snorkel and swim with dolphins at the Chankanaab National Park, whose name means “little sea” in Mayan. Experienced divers tend to visit Cozumel’s northern beaches, while families seek out calmer shores to the south. The Palancar reef off Cozumel’s southwest coast is home to a diverse and colorful array of marine life and is a must-see for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.

Cozumel is also home to several Mayan ruins, including El Cedral, believed to have been a ceremonial site. Today, a church stands nearby, continuing the religious significance of the area. Be sure to visit San Gervasio, a site dedicated to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of fertility.

Note

Nestled amid Mexico’s sun-blessed west coast, beautiful Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, its tropical neighbor to the north, offer slices of paradise just waiting to be explored.

These two destinations are connected by a bridge across the Río Ameca, which forms a natural distinction between the Mexican states of Jalisco and Nayarit.

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit share a common bond of sunny shores, picturesque ports, and unforgettable sunsets.
