Manuel Antonio is one of Costa Rica’s most popular beach destinations. Right here, challenging experiences abound and Ocean Kayaking is one of those adventures that will allow you to get a close look of dazzling white sandy beaches backed by tropical rainforest and the diverse array of wildlife while you feel the fresh ocean breezes paddling along the coastline. At only 20 minutes’ drive from your selected hotel, you will arrive to Nahomi Park, a hidden gem, near southern Quepos town, and where the ocean tour starts from the public kayaking launch point. Before the adventure begins, the bilingual guide will give you your life vest, paddle, and your sit-on-top ocean kayak that fit one or two persons, easy to paddle and with a super-stable hull design. As well, you will receive proper paddling techniques and safety recommendations that you have to follow along the kayaking exploration. The freewheeling joy of gliding through ocean waters suits nearly any attitude or fitness level and gets even better after you learn the proper way to paddle a kayak. While the paddling is straight forward, you absolutely must master a few basic skills before heading out into the ocean. Once you master a few kayak tips and techniques, you will get into the ocean, there may be some rolling waves going up and down, but not choppy, and after that, your paddle will begin to feel like a natural extension of your arms and hands.
You will see the Central Pacific coastline as the first Spanish explorers did, giving you a unique perspective with stunning views while paddling along the coast. You will closely pass islands that are the mating refuges and you can eventually spot numerous seabirds like frigate birds and pelicans, sea turtles and even – during their season – whales and dolphins. One of the nicest things about kayaking is no motor noises that may frighten off marine animals you want to observe. After 1.5 mile paddling, you will reach in front of a secluded bay where there is snorkeling spot by a rock protruding out of the water, which attracts many fish. Snorkeling gear will be provided and you will have 30 minutes to snorkel. Although Manuel Antonio is not known for having the clearest water for snorkeling as water visibility depends on weather conditions, you will be surprised that you could see crustaceans, mollusks and plenty of colorful tropical fish. Also, you will visit Biesanz Beach, a beautiful well-keep treasure covered by dense green wilderness to enjoy delicious fruits, take a rest and recharge your batteries before returning back to Nahomi Bay and continue with the tourist transportation to the operations center to change your clothes and to have a delicious Costa Rican homemade meal.
