Innovation, Network, and Sustainability:
How United Leads the Airline Industry

United Airlines, headquartered in Chicago’s Willis Tower, is officially the largest airline in the world by available seat miles and destinations served. It connects passengers to more than 360 destinations across six continents, operating over 4,500 flights per day. The airline’s extensive network is supported by eight primary hubs: Chicago–O’Hare, Denver, Houston–Intercontinental, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington–Dulles, and Guam.

Publicly traded under the Nasdaq symbol “UAL,” United Airlines continues to play a pivotal role in the aviation industry, with a strong focus on innovation, customer service, and sustainability initiatives.

Cabins

United Airlines’ cabins combine comfort with cutting-edge innovation. Beginning in late 2025, passengers will experience United Polaris Studio — a premium space featuring privacy doors, the largest lie-flat seat on board, and the largest seatback screen among all U.S. carriers. As part of the broader United Next upgrade, all cabin classes will feature redesigned interiors, larger overhead bins, and updated technology.

United Premium Plus® offers travelers spacious seating with additional legroom and enhanced dining, while Economy Class includes seatback entertainment, USB power at every seat, and upgraded materials to improve comfort. United Airlines also became the first U.S. carrier to add Braille to aircraft interiors, further advancing accessibility across its fleet.

Clubs & Lounges

United Airlines’ United Club and lounges provide travelers with comfort and convenience in a refined setting. These exclusive spaces offer plush seating, complimentary refreshments, and high-speed Wi-Fi, creating a welcome retreat from the busy airport environment. Whether awaiting a flight or seeking a quiet space to work, guests can enjoy premium amenities and personalized service.

With locations in major airports worldwide, United Airlines’ lounges elevate the travel experience for discerning passengers.

Sustainability

United Airlines has pledged to achieve a 100% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 without relying on voluntary carbon offsets. It remains the only U.S. airline with a venture fund dedicated to building a more sustainable future for aviation, investing in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), carbon capture, power-to-liquids, battery innovation, and electric-hybrid aircraft.

The airline has raised more than $200 million in committed capital to support start-ups developing SAF production and other breakthrough technologies, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable aviation.

technology

United Airlines leverages technology to enhance every aspect of the passenger journey. It was the first U.S. airline to support Live Activities on iPhone, providing travelers with real-time flight updates — including gate changes and baggage claim details — directly on their lock screens.

The airline’s award-winning mobile app offers intuitive booking, contactless check-in, and interactive airport maps. Onboard, passengers enjoy high-definition seatback entertainment screens, in-seat power outlets, and USB ports across most aircraft, enabling them to remain both entertained and connected throughout their flights.
