UMBRIA: ITALY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET

WHY UMBRIA?

WHAT TO VISIT & DO

Umbria, Italy’s quietly luxurious “Green Heart,” is a region of rolling hills, medieval hill towns, and deeply rooted culinary traditions. Often overlooked in favor of its famous neighbor Tuscany, Umbria offers a slower rhythm and fewer crowds, delivering a beautifully authentic version of classic Italy. With its serene countryside landscapes and timeless villages, Umbria is ideal for travelers seeking intimacy, depth, and understated elegance. Perfect for both first-time visitors and seasoned Italy lovers, the region pairs seamlessly with major gateway cities such as Rome and Florence while providing a more restorative, crowd-light experience.

Umbria stands out for:

  • A crowd-light alternative to Tuscany with equally beautiful landscapes
  • Iconic hill towns and meaningful cultural heritage (Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto)
  • Food & wine: truffles (Norcia), olive oil, and Sagrantino tastings (Montefalco)
  • Wellness + slow luxury: spa retreats and restorative countryside stays
  • Easy pairing with Rome, Florence/Tuscany, and (for longer trips) Venice

Hill Towns & Culture

  • Perugia – Elegant regional capital
  • Assisi – UNESCO World Heritage Site heritage
  • Orvieto – Cathedral and underground city
  • Spoleto, Spello & Bavagna – Timeless villages willed with charm

Food & Wine

  • Truffle experience in Norcia – hunting + tasting lunch
  • Montefalco wine day – Sagrantino tastings
  • Olive oil mill visit – private tasting
  • Hands-on cooking class – Umbrian classics

Nature & Wellness

  • Spa and wellness retreats – perfect between busy cities
  • E-bike through vineyards/olive groves – easy, scenic, and experiential
  • Lake Trasimeno – peaceful, ideal for a slow afternoon

Ideal For: Couples, food & wine travelers, repeat Italy clients, and anyone who loves Tuscany’s beauty but wants a more authentic pace.
